Adjusting Your Settings
Access the ‘Settings’ page to manage the following:
- Setup options
- Subscriptions and Upgrades
- ‘General’ trip features and preferences

Setup Prerequisites
Setup options include (1) Location detection*, (2) Motion and Fitness Activity* and (3) Cloud backup.
If any of the setup options are disabled or become disabled when you are using Mileage Log, a notification will display on the main (Unclassified) page of the app. If you navigate to the Mileage Log settings page, there will be a link to take you directly to your iPhone’s setting to re-enable the corresponding option.
* NOTE: Location detection and Motion and Fitness Activity are must be enabled in order for Mileage Log to work. Cloud backup is highly recommended so that a backup of your trips as well as reports may be stored in a secure Cloud location that you are responsible for. Neither Mileage Log nor its creator, Nighp, can access your data, your privacy is maintained. But you do need to have a Cloud account to ensure your data is backed up and the auto-generated reports can be uploaded to a location you control.

General Options
This section provides additional options to set up and configure Mileage Log more specifically as well as backup and exporting options.
- Vehicle
If you require tracking different vehicles for your trips, you may enter them here along with the odometer reading for each vehicle*.
* NOTE: Odometer readings at the start and end of the year may be necessary for tax reporting purposes.
- Work Hours
This feature lets Mileage Log classify your trips based on the ‘Work Hours’ that you set. When enabled, trips taken outside of the ‘Work Hours’ will automatically be classified as ‘Personal’ trips.
- Enable/disable ‘Work Hours’.
- Enable/disable the day of the week.
- Adjust the slider for each day to set the start and end work hour times for that day.
- Use the ‘copy to all workdays’ shortcut to apply a setting from one day to all other enabled days.
- Auto Classify
Auto Classify can save you time and effort in classifying future trips that you take to and from the same locations. Auto Classify runs in the background and trips that are classified in this manner are marked by an ‘Auto’ label.
- To enable or disable Auto Classify, tap on the toggle switch
- To match the return trip, tick the checkbox.
- Tap on any Auto Classified trip to edit the Classify Rule for it.
You may delete any classify rule in Auto Classify by swiping the rule to the left. The ‘Delete’ button will appear.
You can edit the Classify Rule. The following details may be edited:
- To and from locations
- Change the trip classification by tapping the appropriate button.
- Add additional information that should be applied to future trips including:
- Toll and/or parking expenses
- A trip purpose
- The vehicle used for these trips
To delete this trip classification rule, tap on the ‘Delete’ icon on the bottom of the page.
- Mileage Rate
Manage the reimbursement rates that is used to calculate the value of your trips, including creating your own custom rates.
- Standard IRS reimbursement rate information is provided.
- Custom rates that you have created are listed below the standard rates.
- Create your own custom rate by tapping on the text link to navigate to the custom rate page.
To create a custom rate, enter the following details:
- Name the custom rate.
- Enter the reimbursement rate.
- If needed, enter notes for this custom rate.
- Preferences
The ‘Preferences’ page lets you manage the following options:
- Sort Order for the ‘Review’ page
Classified trip listings in the ‘Review’ and ‘Unclassified’ pages may be listed in either descending or ascending order.
- Distance Unit
Showing trip mileage in either ‘Miles’ or ‘Kilometers’.
- Quick Buttons
Change the default classification buttons that display for each trip in the ‘Unclassified’ page. Refer to the next section below 'Quick Buttons' for more information
- Enable or disable the following types of confirmation messages:
- One Click Classify
- Pinch Merge Trips
- Classify All
- Enable or disable the following notifications:
- Icon Badge
- Push Notifications/Alerts
Enable or disable push notifications and alerts. These alerts are the text popups and audio cues you receive when new trips are logged or trips require classification.
The ‘Quick Buttons’ display for trips listed in the ‘Unclassified’ page. These buttons help you quickly classify your trip without the need to enter the Trip Details screen.
You can set two quick buttons and, by default, the two most common options - ‘Business’ and ‘Personal’ - are enabled. To change, simply tap on either the left or right toggle switch for the corresponding classification option. Your changes are automatically applied.
- Backup and Auto Report Export
Mileage Log can automatically backup and export your trip reports to your Cloud account. In order for this service to be available, you need to link Mileage Log to your Cloud account. Mileage Log can connect to both iCloud and Dropbox accounts.
NOTE: Mileage Log respects your privacy and does not transmit or duplicate your trip data to any external source. Mileage Log recommends that you set up a Cloud account in order for backups and auto-generated reported to be saved in an alternative Cloud service of your choosing. - Export/Import Your Mileage Data
You have the option to manually export your Mileage Log data file. The file format is a Mileage Log specific format and can only be used to import to another Mileage Log application on another iPhone. This option is available if you switch iPhones and wish to maintain your Mileage Log data in your new phone. Keep in mind that if you import this file, that it will erase any existing Mileage Log data that may exist in the target iPhone.
You may export your Mileage Log data file using either Airdrop or sending via email. To import the data file:
- For Airdrop:
- Accept the request for the shared file.
- The Mileage Log app will automatically open.
- A warning message will popup asking if you want to import the file.
- Accept the message and the file will automatically be imported into the Mileage Log app, replacing any existing data.

- Via email:
- Open the email from your target iPhone and download the Mileage Log data file.
- Access the downloaded file and tap the file to open.
- The iPhone will popup a message requesting you open in the Mileage Log app.
- Tap the option to open the file in Mileage Log.
- In the Mileage Log app, a warning message will popup asking if you want to import the file.
- Accept the message and the file will automatically be imported into the Mileage Log app, replacing any existing data.
